February 1-26:  SPAR Canned Food Drive -  In conjunction with African American History Month, SPAR will host a canned food drive at all SPAR Recreation Centers.  All donations will support the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.  For additional information call Nick Robberson, SPAR Superintendent, at 318-673-7872 or drop off can good items at your nearest SPAR Community Center.

February 2-26:  Shreveport Art Club Show - Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive in Shreveport, LA.

February 9:  Free Community Forum - A new tax deduction is available for school tuition and supplies.  To explain the new School Expense Tax Deduction, the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) announces a free community forum.  Everyone is invited to attend:  6pm, 1525 Fairfield Avenue, Room 205 in Shreveport, LA.  Space is limited.  Those interested in attending are encouraged to call the Shreveport LDR office to register.  The number is 318-676-7505.

February 11-21:  Shreveport Little Theatre & Academy present "Big River" - Margaret Shaffer Dickson Theater, on the campus of Southfield School  - 1100 Southfield Road, one block north of Pierremont.  Box Office: 300 Ockley Drive (at Youree) in Shreveport, LA.  Box Office hours beginning Tuesday, January 26, 2010 are: Mon.-Fri. from noon to 4pm.  Regular priced tickets are $18.00.  Students, Seniors, & Active Military tickets $15.00.  High School & College Student Rush Available $10.00.  Call 318-424-4439 for ticket information and performance times.

February 12:  The Shreveport Branch of the NAACP 101st Anniversary - Celebration at 7:00 PM at the Evergreen Baptist Church, 804 Allen Avenue, in Shreveport, LA.  The speaker for the evening will be Dr. Aaron Dobynes.  Special recognition will be given to past presidents and life members.  This celebration is open to the public and is free! February 13:  Valentine's Luncheon & Style Show/Murder Mystery Dinner Theater - 11:30 am at The Longview Museum of Fine Arts, Longview, TX.  The luncheon features the Kilgore Rangerettes modeling the latest styles.  Lunch to be catered by Something Sweet, Chef Nathaniel Olson.  Tickets are $15- call 903-753-8103.  The Valentine's Dinner and Murder Mystery Theater will be at 7:00pm.  Enjoy "Agatha Christie Made Me Do It" and a romantic dinner for $50.  The present exhibit features the art of Jeffrey Brosk: Wood Transformation and Leah Dunaway: Eye of the Beholder.

February 13: 17th Annual Mardi Gras Ball - 7:30pm to midnight at Marshall Civic Center, 2501 East End Blvd. S. in Marshall, TX.  Presented by St Joseph Catholic School in Marshall.  Enjoy music by Earshot Graffiti starting at 8pm.  Festive attire or Mardi Gras costumes are welcome. Admission $25.00 per person / BYOB(setups provided).  All proceeds benefit St Joseph Catholic School.  For more information call 903-935-5502.

March 22-24:  Spring Career Fair at Jarvis Christian College - Sponsored by the Office of Career Services and the Office of Academic Success.  The Career Fair will be held at the Rand Center from 10:00am until 5:00pm.  Jarvis Christian College Career Fair provides employers the opportunity to recruit some of the most talented students in the country. The Career Fair provides rewarding experiences to employers, the students, faculty and the university, and is an important part of the total educational process at our college.  For information contact Jarvis Christian College: P.O. Music and Art Classes -  Noel United Methodist Church is offering music and art classes through their Noel Community Arts Program.  Session one runs January 18-February 27 and session two runs March 15-April 24.  These six-week group sessions meet once a week offering a wide variety of interests including Art Exploration, Pottery, Beginning Drawing, and GYMBOREE-Family Music.  Private lessons in Piano, Drums, Guitar, Voice, Organ, Violin, and Woodwinds are available as well. Prices for the group lessons are $50.00-$65.00 for the entire six weeks, with GYMBOREE prices based on the number of children.  The private lessons are $65.00 per month.  Scholarships are available based on need.  Please call the church office at 318-221-5207 or visit our website at www.noelumc.org/ncap for more details.

Bimonthly Medical Screenings - 9:30am, 2nd and 4th Thursdays each month.  Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) and the Chris Hays Community Center announce bimonthly diabetes and blood pressure screenings at the center located at 4300 Illinois Street, Shreveport.  For more information call 318-673-7814.
