Southeast Shreveport To Get New Fire Station

Southeast Shreveport prepares to welcome a new fire station to the area.
Tuesday morning city leaders broke ground for the 22nd fire station slated for completion in March of 2008.
The new 11,000 square foot fire station, which will be located at 2022 Southern Loop between Norris Ferry and Wallace Lake Roads, will serve the areas of Ellerbe Road, Long Lake, Southern Trace, Eastern Southern Hills and other surrounding communities.
The new fire station is the third step as part of the fire department's relocation master plan.
Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran said, "Having this station in this location will reduce a tremendous response time gap that has created challenges for us in this area."
The station is being built from money dedicated in the 2001 bond election and will cost $1.9 million.
Land for the project was donated by the Provenance Development Company.
