Armed Standoff Ends with Tear Gas

The standoff between police and a north Shreveport homeowner ended shortly after 7 PM Friday night, with the Shreveport Special Response Team using tear gas to draw 56 year old David Hunter out of his house.

Police say Hunter was outside working in his yard in the 4300 block of Old Mooringsport Road around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, when he saw Narcotics officers going to a nearby home.  They say he became agitated at police and told them to get away.  He then ran into his house, called police and told them he had a gun.  Police say they've been to the house before but declined to go into detail about previous contact with Hunter.

The standoff forced the closure of Old Mooringsport Road from Highway 71 to Pine Hill Road for most of the afternoon.

Hunter was not injured, but police say he was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
He will be charged with Aggravated Assault for allegedly threatening a neighbor with a gun last weekend.
