Hamilton Road Reopened after Chemical Spill

Traffic has returned to normal along a four block area of Hamilton Road in Bossier City.  The road between Olgivie and Cox Streets had been blocked off for several hours Thursday morning after about 8,000 gallons of hydrochloric acid leaked from a storage tank inside the Schlumberger plant.
Bossier City spokesman Mark Natale told KSLA News around 4:00 a. m., workers discovered that a valve on the tank had broken and began cleaning up the spill.  He said the chemical  flowed into a containment area and did not seep onto any nearby streets.
Still, Natale said, firefighters evacuated two employees from a business next door as a precaution.  He said the acid leak did not present a danger to any homes or two nearby schools.
Traffic had to be diverted for more than 3 hours.  Just before 8:00 a. m., firefighters determined the area was safe again and reopened the road.
