SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
One land owner in Shreveport said she has become afraid of her safety and the safety of her pets after one of her donkey's turned up dead on her property. Tina Soes has lived along 117 acres near Flournoy Lucas Road in Shreveport for more than 20 years. She said what happened on Monday was the most disgusting act she has ever witnessed.
"As I was driving up I could see my donkey was strapped to post by a halter and his neck was broke but he wasn't dead yet," said Soes, who described the emotional moments when she saw her donkey wrapped around a pole in the donkey's pin.
"I took out my pocket knife and I cut the halter off of him. I gave him CPR. I gave him water and I tried to revive him and but I couldn't do it."
Soes said someone broke onto her property and tied up her donkey, J.T., then drove over to her barn only feet away and stole thousands of dollars in equipment.
"I had two saddles and a bunch of head stalls and they just took everything and went."
Soes said she felt like the attack was personal since the criminal killed her personal donkey. She has been caring for 12 abandoned donkeys on her property since December.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's office has an active investigation on the incident, calling it animal cruelty. The office will work along side Soes to catch the person or person's responsible for leaving Soes beloved pet for dead.
Only feet from where J.T. was killed, Soes made one final prayer standing beside the gravesite where the animal was buried and that was to find out who did this to her family member.
If you have any information on this incident you are asked to call the Caddo-Shreveport Crimestoppers at 318-673-7373.
