SEATTLE (AP) - Jeff Baker's two-run homer and Lance Berkman's three-run shot helped the Texas Rangers beat the Mariners 9-5 last night in Seattle. Baker's shot in the second inning gave the Rangers the lead, but it was Berkman's fourth homer of the season into the left-field seats that broke the game open in the third.
HOUSTON (AP) - Chris Young hit a three-run homer in the ninth to get the Oakland A's past the Astros with a 6-5 win. Young is hitting just .189 for the season, but is a career .418 hitter at Minute Maid Park with seven home runs and 27 RBIs in 19 games in his hometown of Houston.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The Indiana Fever spoiled San Antonio's season opener last night. It was the Silver Stars' first season-opener loss since 2010. The depleted San Antonio team was without Becky Hammon and Sophia Young. Shenise Johnson scored 14 points and Shameka Christon added 10 for the Silver Stars.
DALLAS (AP) - Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent has been ordered by a judge to undergo more alcohol monitoring. Brent is awaiting trial on an intoxicated manslaughter charge for a December crash that killed Cowboys practice squad player Jerry Brown Junior. Brent's trial is scheduled for September.
