SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – John Skaggs' family members are happy to see him, and happy to know he's feeling better.

Skaggs is home from the hospital now, but he's heavily medicated and very sore.

"A couple of days the swelling will be all gone, and hopefully next week they'll schedule the surgery," said Skaggs.

Police have arrested and charged William Payne with a hate crime.

Skaggs says he doesn't remember being attacked.

But the owner of the Sandbar, Timothy Huck saw the surveillance video before he turned it over to police, and describes it as disturbing.

His hand was all the way back and he's swinging like a baseball bat, after three aggressive steps in. >

"It's just an ignorant thing to do," said Skaggs.

Police and Skaggs both believe he was targeted for his sexuality.

"It is a hate crime, I didn't do anything, it turns out he told people he knew I was gay, and he was going to beat me up," said Skaggs.

Skaggs was allegedly attacked by one individual that reportedly motivated by hate, but the incident has generated an outpouring of support from many others.

"I appreciate everybody's love a support," said Skaggs.
