BATON ROUGE, La. – Four former LSU players have either signed contracts or agreed to terms this week with Major League Baseball clubs. Catcher Micah Gibbs, outfielder Leon Landry, pitcher Austin Ross and outfielder Johnny Dishon are joining MLB organizations after being selected in last week's draft.

Gibbs has agreed to terms with the Chicago Cubs, Landry has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Ross and Dishon have signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

All four players significantly improved their status as professional prospects during their LSU careers as they helped lead the Tigers to the 2009 national championship, two College World Series appearances, one SEC regular-season title and three SEC Tournament crowns.

"We are very proud of everything these players accomplished during their college years," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "They developed both on the field and as young men, and they established a legacy of excellence as LSU Tigers. They have a chance now to pursue their dreams on the pro level, and we look forward to following their careers."

Gibbs, a product from Pflugerville, Texas, was selected in the third round by the Cubs. Gibbs, who was not drafted out of high school, was the Tigers' leading hitter this season, batting .388 with 14 doubles, three triples, 10 homers and 60 RBI. The 2010 second-team all-America and first-team All-SEC selection was a member of the ABCA Gold Glove Team last season.

Landry, a Baton Rouge native, was taken in the third round by the Dodgers, and he has been assigned to the Ogden (Utah) Raptors, the club's Rookie League affiliate. Drafted in the 37th round by the Cincinnati Reds out of Baker High School, Landry hit .338 this season with 12 doubles, six triples, six homers and 45 RBI.

Ross and Dishon have both been assigned to the Brewers' Rookie League affiliate in Helena, Mont.

Ross, a right-hander from Shreveport, La., was selected in the eighth round by Milwaukee. Undrafted out of Captain Shreve High School, Ross was LSU's leader this season in starts (13), innings pitched (88) and strikeouts (98). The petroleum engineering major is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Dishon, a product of Beaumont, Texas, was drafted in the 42nd round by the Brewers. He started 11 games and batted. 240 as a true freshman in 2008 before being redshirted for the 2009 season. He started 14 games this season, batting .213 with three doubles, one triple, four homers and six steals in seven attempts.
