YWCA may soon close

Posted: Updated:

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – For years the YWCA of Northwest Louisiana has served as a domestic violence shelter for women and children, but that could all change.

The YWCA announced plans of possibly closing its doors at a press conference this morning.

The interim Executive Director Judi Bishop says they simply don't have the funds to try and meet the needs of the organization.

Bishop came to Shreveport with a plan to help the YWCA get back on its feet.

It's the same plan she used to help another YWCA in Fort Worth facing similar financial challenges.

"In five short weeks we've made remarkable progress, but we simply do not have the resources to fully implement the plan," says Bishop.

The YWCA says families will be relocated if it decides to shut its doors.

A final decision will be determined Thursday.

Watch the video to hear from a survivor of abuse and how she feels about the YWCA's announcement.
