NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Claiborne Parish grand jury set to be impaneled Wednesday is expected to hear testimony in the shooting death of an elderly man by Homer police.
However, attorney general spokeswoman Tammi Arender said evidence is still being reviewed and the grand jury will not immediately begin its investigation.
Bernard Monroe, a 73-year-old black man, was shot by a white Homer police officer outside his home in February 2009.
Authorities say two white officers had been chasing Monroe's son. Police say the elder Monroe was armed, but witnesses say he was not. Both officers involved in the killing have resigned.
The attorney general's office, which took over the case from parish officials, hopes to present evidence during the grand jury's term, which runs for up to eight months.
