Stamps, AR Police investigate alleged home invasion shooting

Posted: Updated:

STAMPS, AR (KSLA) – An Arkansas man is dead after what appears to be a home invasion shooting early Saturday morning in Stamps, Arkansas.

Stamps Police say that the fatal shooting happened at a home in the 300 block of Main St. around 12: 40 a.m., Saturday morning.

According to Stamps Police, it is believed by officers that the homeowner, 71-year-old Lawrence Jones was at home watching television when allegedly 42-year-old Louis Sullivan walked into Jones' home and attacked Jones.

Allegedly, police say Sullivan hit Jones in the face and head multiple times and sometime during the attack Jones was able to get to a handgun.

Reportedly Jones shot Sullivan, police say possibly while still being attacked.

Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Jones was reportedly taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries he allegedly sustained during the attack.

At this time, Arkansas State Police are assisting Stamps Police, Lewisville, Arkansas Police and Lafayette County Sheriff's Office in this investigation, which officials say is ongoing.
