SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A January sentencing date has been set for a man convicted of manslaughter in the death of a Shreveport teenager.
The victim was 15-year-old Adam Klingensmith. He was among a group of teenagers who had stopped to push a woman's stalled car off a Shreveport Street when he was struck by a drunk driver in 2007.
The driver, 54-year-old Jimmy Ray White, was convicted of manslaughter in August. One issue in the January sentencing hearing will be whether White, who has a criminal record, should be considered a fourth-felony habitual offender.
Judge Ramona Emanuel on Wednesday deferred a ruling on his status as a fourth-felony offender until the January hearing. White could get up to 40 years in prison.
