SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) –   Shedelia Woodard is just happy that she and her family are alive after watching just how quickly a fire spread in her life long home in the 600 block of west 73rd street.

"By the time I got up and got everybody out, the flames just went up.. and at a blink of an eye, everything was consumed," said Shedelia.

And that includes Christmas presents for her kids and family.

"My mom, that was her house, and she left it to us, now we have nothing," said Valerie Woodard Scott, Shedelia's sister.

The fire department says a space heater made contact with bed covers - after narrowly escaping those flames with just her life, Shedelia has a little advice for those using space heaters.

"Don't leave them unattended and for God sakes don't put nothing in front of them," said Shedelia.

She says because that one little oversight has left her without a home, and now living with her daughter.

"I'm happy that I can help, I'm happy everyone is ok, we are blessed we are," said Shedelia's daughter, Ledelia.

"But we'll start over, some type of way," said Scott.

Fire fighters did all they could do, but before daylight Wednesday morning, the home was considered a total loss.
