ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - Jurors for the trials of 5 Louisiana State Penitentiary inmates accused of killing a security officer 10 years ago will be chosen from St. Tammany Parish.
State District Judge George H. Ware Jr. said Thursday jurors will be transported to West Feliciana Parish for the first-degree murder trials, which would beginning next year.
Ware told The Advocate he has asking the state Supreme Court to appoint another judge to preside over the trials, which he said could take six months to a year to complete.
The state is seeking the death penalty against David Mathis, David Brown, Robert G. Carley, Jeffrey Cameron Clark and Barry S. Edge in the Dec. 28, 1999, stabbing and beating death of Capt. David C. Knapps.
All are serving life sentences for other murders.
