Two S'port families homeless, following morning fire

Posted: Updated:

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – A fire early Saturday morning in Shreveport's Allendale neighborhood leaves two Shreveport families homeless.

The Shreveport Fire Department was called out around 9:15 a.m. to a two-plex apartment, located in the 1900 block of Abbie St., Saturday reportedly on fire.

According to Shreveport fire officials, units arrived on scene to find smoke and flames visible. Over 25 firefighters fought the flames, during Saturday morning's frigid temperatures.

Luckily there were no injuries, according to officials. Firefighters say the two-plex was occupied by a family of four in one apartment and a single elderly man in the other.

It is believed that the fire started in the front of the complex. Fire officials say both units suffered major fire and smoke damage.

However, the cause of the fire is still being investigated by officials.
