FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A Florida company acquiring Sparks Regional Medical Center at Fort Smith says the takeover will be effective Tuesday.
Health Management Associates Inc. of Naples, Fla., announced Monday that it had officially acquired Sparks.
The company and the hospital's Board of Trustees announced the sale agreement in early November after a deal to sell the hospital to a Georgia-based firm fell through. The sale was prompted by financial difficulties that Sparks had experience in recent years.
HMA owns and operates 55 hospitals around the country.
