Weekend tornado hits Bowie County

Posted: Updated:

BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KSLA) – The National Weather Service says an F1 tornado caused the damage and destruction late Sunday afternoon in New Boston, TX.

The storm hit about 5:40 p.m. as severe thunderstorms moved through the Ark-La-Tex. At least one mobile home was destroyed and four other homes suffered damaged, but authorities didn't report any injuries from the storm.

"There was no (tornado) warning, just a thunderstorm warning was all we had," said one emergency responder.  "Nobody heard anything or saw anything."

One woman who rode out the storm said, "I was home along and was in a closet along. No, I take that back. I was not in the closet alone. I was in the closet with God."

Survey teams from the National Weather Service went to Bowie County Monday to survey the damage.
