Robert James Sellers, Jr. (source Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office)BENTON, LA (KSLA) - Bossier Parish has released the name of the deputy wounded by an armed suspect over the weekend.
Lt. Craig Ammons has been with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office for almost seven years. He was shot once in the arm with a .22 caliber rifle while trying to arrest 27-year-old Robert Sellers.
According to BPSO Spokesperson Lt. Ed Baswell, the shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Seller's home north of Benton. Baswell said Sellers allegedly tried to rape a close family member at the house Saturday, then fled when deputies arrived only to return to the house Sunday.
Baswell said deputies tried to talk Sellers into surrendering. When that didn't work, they tried to rush him and stun him with a Taser. The Taser apparently didn't work, and Sellers allegedly grabbed a rifle and squeezed off a shot, hitting a deputy in the right arm.
Sellers was booked with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of attempted forcible rape.
