TCU goes from bust to BCS buster in 12 seasons

Associated Press - November 29, 2009 4:25 PM ET

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - After 12 seasons and some near-misses, TCU will finally be a BCS buster - after a 12-0 regular season.

The Frogs wrapped up their first undefeated regular season since 1938, its only AP national championship, with a 51-10 victory Saturday over New Mexico.

The Bowl Championship Series announces the matchups for its five games next Sunday.

The fourth-ranked Horned Frogs had just finished 1-10 in 1997 when coach Gary Patterson arrived as the defensive coordinator with a new staff. He became head coach three years later.

TCU has won at least 10 games seven times, with only one losing record over the past 12 seasons.
