Shreveport Symphony to perform after being on strike

Posted: Updated:

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – After more than a year of being on strike, the show will now go on for the Shreveport Symphony.

The Shreveport Symphony Group and Musicians Board have negotiated an interim agreement.

The agreement will allow for three performances in 2010. This comes on the heels of a 14-month strike by the musicians.

They walked away from the symphony because of pay and structural changes.

"The musicians wanted to play and we as board members and the community wanted them to play, and enough time had passed and we continued to work hard on both sides," says Dick Bremer, Symphony Board President

"It is an important first step," says Rick Rowell, Shreveport Symphony musician. "We are hopeful we'll be able to continue the process.  There's a lot of negotiating left to do, but we believe both sides are truly committed to the future of the organization."

Both sides acknowledge that this is just the first step in a long process.
