LONDON (AP) - A new study shows that double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius has a significant advantage over able-bodied runners because of the South African's artificial limbs.
The study by human performance researchers from the United States shows that Pistorius covers the 400-meter distance 10 seconds faster than he would if his prosthetics behaved like normal legs.
Peter Weyand of Southern Methodist University and Matthew Bundle of the University of Wyoming will publish their findings Thursday in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
