HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A Texas death row inmate scheduled to die tonight has lost an appeal at the U.S. Supreme Court that he'd hoped would spare him.
Danielle Simpson had once volunteered for execution, but in recent weeks he's changed his mind. The 30-year-old inmate is to die for the abduction and slaying of 84-year-old Palestine (PAL'-uh-steen) church organist and former school teacher Geraldine Davidson.
Simpson would be the 22nd Texas prisoner to die this year. Tomorrow, 34-year-old Robert Lee Thompson is scheduled for a lethal injection in Huntsville for his part in the shooting death of a Houston convenience store clerk during a robbery 13 years ago.
