CADDO & BOSSIER PARISH, LA (KSLA) – It's been weeks since the storms rolled through the Ark-La-Tex. Today FEMA and Governor Bobby Jindal's assessment teams hit the streets to see if the areas affected add up enough to get federal assistance. Every time it rains, Shirley Hollice and family get wet, because of a leaky roof in their home.

"We got wet the other night---it rained on us--with holes in the roof and we'll be so glad to get a roof on," she said. FEMA and other state officials were out surveying the damage in her Haughton neighborhood today.

It was one of the hardest hit. Now, it's all about tree removal and rebuilding.

"A lot of people doing different things a like dominos falling but finally we're going to get through with it," Hollice said.

The goal is for FEMA and others to see whether or not there is enough damage to qualify for federal aid.

“There's a threshold we have to meet so we're documenting at add with affected damage from the storm we suffered in October," Robert Jump said.

In Caddo Parish, the situation isn't as bad, but Brenda White's roof has holes in it, too from wind damage from those storms.

"I think it’s been a good thing that they're trying to get folks homes fixed," White said.

Officials said it could be a while before they know if storm areas will be deemed acceptable for federal aid.

Officials will be in Webster Parish tomorrow.
