COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M University is preparing to remember the 10th anniversary of the bonfire collapse, which killed 12 Aggies and injured 27 others.
Students and others were working on the 59-foot tower of logs they were building for the school's famed bonfire when it came crashing down in the early morning hours of Nov. 18, 1999.
About 10,000 Aggies and others were expected to gather Tuesday evening at A&M's basketball arena for a ceremony remembering the accident.
Then at 2:42 a.m. on Wednesday, the exact time of the accident, thousands of people were expected to participate in a candlelight vigil at the collapse site, which is now home to a circular memorial.
