HILLSDALE, Mich. (AP) - The legacy of the New Deal and the economic policies of the administration of President Franklin Roosevelt is the subject of a 4-day program this winter at Hillsdale College.
The school's Center for Constructive Alternatives presents the program Jan. 31-Feb. 3 at its campus in Hillsdale.
Hillsdale says the New Deal "embodied a fundamentally new understanding of the meaning of freedom and the role of government in the American constitutional order."
It says arguments about the New Deal's meaning and effects still dominate American politics today.
The opening speaker is H.W. Brands of the University of Texas. He's author of "Traitor to His Class: The Privileged Life and Radical Presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt."
