SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – Shoplifting is not just on the rise nationally. It's also up here at home. Shreveport alone has seen a 6-percent jump this year.
No one wants to pay more for anything. That's the word from consumers in the Ark-La-Tex on Saturday but, most say they're Christmas won't suffer.
According to the Center for Retail Research, shoplifting increased 9 percent in the United States.
The report said that has caused businesses to lose $15 billion in the last year. You can bet, as you're making your way to the stores with an already tight budget this holiday season you may be paying more.
"The budget is real tight and with the recession now and you have to cut back even more" Crystal Hamilton said.
The report also notes theft by store employees cost retailers 19 billion dollars in the past year.
According to the report, the most popular stolen items include pricey perfume, video game systems, MP3 players and surprisingly razor blades.
