SUNO basketball player arrested in rape case

Associated Press - November 13, 2009 2:34 PM ET

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A basketball player for Southern University at New Orleans has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman at his apartment.

University spokesman Harold Clark says the player, 21-year-old Andre J. Davis, was suspended from the men's basketball team after he was arrested and booked Wednesday with one count of forcible rape. Davis was freed from jail after posting $25,000 bond.

A police report says Davis invited his alleged victim to watch a movie with him at his apartment late Tuesday. The woman accused Davis of fondling her and raping her after she lay down on his bed.

Davis, a junior, is listed as a forward and center on SUNO's Web site.
