MINDEN, La. (AP) - An appellate court has reversed the negligent homicide convictions of three former employees of a northwestern Louisiana youth shelter who were convicted in the 2005 death of a 12-year-old Haughton boy.
But the three could still face more jail time because the court affirmed their convictions of cruelty to a juvenile.
The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal decision means that Kelston Greenard, Arthur G. Henderson III and Anthony L. Combs still face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The negligent homicide charge carried a maximum five-year sentence. Webster District Judge Parker Self will decide on the sentence.
The three were convicted in the case of Alex Harris, a resident of the Hope Youth Ranch who died after being denied water during a punishment run that lasted several hours.
