SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – So, just how are Bossier City bus riders responding to a possible cut in services? KSLA News 12’s Nick Guillory spent Tuesday riding along on one of SporTran's most popular Bossier City bus routes and the reaction from commuters isn’t nice. East Bossier 16, one of the busiest bus routes in the city.
James Daniel rides it to and from his job in Shreveport every day and without it.
“I'd have a heck of a time getting around if I didn't have this bus, it takes me home—brings me back to work," Daniel said.
It's not just the working people that said they'll be affected by cuts. Students at Bossier Parish Community College say it'll be tough to get to classes. “I don't have a car to get to school so how am I going to get here---that's my question to the people who want to cut it off."
Councilman David Jones suggest the city take a look at the SporTran in an effort to save money because there's just simply not enough people riding the bus. "I would be surprised if that would be implemented," Mayor “Lo” Walker said. Others hope the mayor is right, including Danella Williams.
"That's going to suck, because we depend on that for the college and all the jobs up and down East Texas Street," Danella Williams said. Those like James Brown cite a common problem with transportation, gas prices.
"It's hard on the middle class and poor people because of the gas prices are going up,” James Brown said.
With the Mayor apparently on their side these Bossier bus riders are hoping their only source for transportation is spared from the budget axe.
Councilman Jones said his suggestion isn't to cut all bossier bus routes but, instead evaluate the routes that are used the least.
