NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The mouth of the Mississippi River reopens to deep draft navigation. It was closed about 36 hours because of Hurricane Ida.
Officials at the Port of New Orleans say the river's mouth reopened about noon Tuesday. Port president and CEO Gary LaGrange says navigation and port operations were never interrupted further upriver and at the docks of the Port of New Orleans.
He says Carnival Cruise Lines can meet its modified schedule for the Carnival Triumph, originally scheduled to begin homeport operations with a 4-day cruise starting Tuesday. A 3-day cruise will begin Wednesday. Passengers can get discounts or refunds.
Four port bridges over the Inner Harbor Navigation canal returned to service Tuesday.
