BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - Hacking into police and fire might not be enough to fix a $6.5 million budget shortfall in Bossier City. What's next could take aim at another vital service for some residents.
The Bossier City Council will be discussing Sportran at a meeting Tuesday at 3pm as it decides what else to cut from the 2010 budget. One councilman says they will evaluating the routes, not necessarily eliminating the service all together.
Bossier City paid more than $954,000 to have Shreveport's Sportran bus system operate buses within Bossier City limits in 2008.
Sportran cuts are not included in Bossier City's current budget proposal yet, but the 80 police and fire positions on the chopping block are already included.
Councilman David Jones suggested the city take a look at some of the routes Sportran runs in Bossier City. He says not very many people use the system. He stresses that he doesn't want to terminate bus service but he does want to evaluate routes.
