LONGVIEW, TX (KSLA) –Longview, Texas’ fire chief has been put on administrative leave and asked to resign.
After two years, the City of Longview placed Fire Chief Michael Pruitt on administrative leave with pay; following concerns from other city officials over the management and leadership of the city’s fire department.
Pruitt’s resignation was recently asked for by the City Manager’s office. Even after numerous meetings, Pruitt still refuses to offer his resignation.
Longview City Manager, David Willard says that Pruitt’s leadership capabilities have been under scrutiny by other officials for quite some time.
"Over the past several weeks its become apparent to me after numerous meetings with Mr. Pruitt and city staff that we have some issues in the fire department regarding management issues that have severely diminished not only the moral of the fire department, but in my opinion the ability of Chief Pruitt to lead that department," said Willard.
Pruitt’s resignation will be placed on the agenda for the Longview City Council to discuss in executive session, during the Thursday, November 12th City Council meeting.
