SFD holds High Rise Emergency exercise downtown

Posted: Updated:

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – For some Shreveport residents, driving through downtown Shreveport Saturday, it may have looked as if a serious fire emergency was taking place, but the Shreveport Fire Departments wants residents to not be alarmed.

Battling a raging fire inside a high rise building poses some of the biggest challenges to firefighters.

That’s why the Shreveport Fire Department decided to use the Lane Building on Marshall St., in downtown Shreveport for this year’s training exercises.

Most of the day Saturday, firefighters were out in full gear deploying an 80 lb. ‘High Rise Pack.’

The pack contains hoses, wrenches, door stops and other hose connections to the highest accessible level of the building. All equipment firefighters would need if a fire were to break out in a high rise building.

Shreveport Asst. Fire Chief Louis Johnson says the training exercise helps keep our firefighters prepared for worse case scenario situations that can arise anywhere in Shreveport at any time.

Firefighters want to let residents know that the training will continue Sunday and Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford wants the public to know that the exercise is just that, so don’t be alarmed.
