BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, LA (KSLA) - Reaction locally is one of shock and sadness after word of 12-people killed and 31-wounded in Fort Hood, Texas.

Reactions are especially strong for those with military connections and those living in the immediate shadow of Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City.  It may be separate branches of the military, but the feeling of unity is still there.

We met a local mother whose son will soon be headed for an overseas deployment.  For her it's all about her faith in God.  "I put, put it in the Lord's hands and just don't worry about it because the Lord will take care of it."

While speaking with some local residents, there had been at least some sense of closure when they heard the alleged gunman had been killed.  Some fear his survival could intensify any kind of backlash against other muslims in the country.
