BOSSIER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -In continuing coverage of the efforts taken to help Bossier Parish residents affected by the severe weather that came across the Ark-La-Tex last Thursday; the Louisiana National Guard has deployed several hundred guardsmen to help.
According to National Guard officials, approximately 400 guardsmen are now in Bossier Parish assisting with flood abatement operations since Saturday, October 31.
Guardsmen have been running around-the-clock operations to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bossier City officials and Airmen from Barksdale Air Force Base reinforce a six-mile stretch of levee in Bossier Parish.
Officials say that the levee was starting to be overtopped by waters from the Red Chute Bayou after Thursday's massive rainfall.
Special equipment was brought in by guardsmen to help with efforts to keep the Red Chute Bayou levee from breaching and causing a major flooding situation for some South Bossier Parish residents.
