Red Chute falling in the north, rising to the south

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - The news people living in the Stockwell, Dogwood, Carriage Oaks, and other Bossier City neighborhoods near the Red Chute levee north of Highway 80 finally arrived - go home.

Late Tuesday morning emergency preparedness officials said Red Chute had crested and was going down in Bossier City. Bossier City Fire Chief Sammy Halphen said the evacuation advisory for the Bossier City was now lowered to a watch.

While that's good news for folks north of Highway 80, the flooding risk remained for south Bossier Parish from Highway 154 south to the Loggy Bayou Bridge. Those residents remain under an evacuation advisory as the waters from the Red Chute are expected to rise as they flow southward.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Dean reminded those folks in the advisory area they can call the sheriff's office if they need help getting out of the area. You can call 965-2203 or 425-5351.

Also, a sandbag location is open to south Bossier Parish residents on Highway 71 near the Elm Grove school.

Halphen also reminded people returning to their homes in Bossier City that several roads in their neighborhoods remain under water. He advised people be very careful driving through those areas. He said pumps have been brought in to help move the water off those streets quicker.
