NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Xavier University in New Orleans will receive roughly $2 million a year for the next five years to develop a cancer research center.
The grant is coming from the National Institutes of Health and its Research Centers in Minority Institutions.
The university says in a Monday news release that the money will be used to establish laboratories, pay for equipment and staff and fund pilot research projects.
Xavier, a historically black, Catholic institution is 1 of 4 minority institutions receiving grants totaling about $75 million, according to the NIH Web site.
