LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The former athletic director for North Little Rock schools has been sentenced to seven years in prison for maiming another man in a drunken-driving accident.
Five years of the sentence Danny Russell received on Friday were suspended. But Russell faces more prison time if he doesn't pay restitution - as much as $500,000. He will be eligible for parole after serving six months.
Richard Severns of Redfield told a judge that the February 2008 crash that cost him a leg left him seizure-prone with nerve damage and memory loss.
Russell pleaded guilty last month to a charge of battery and a count of second-offense misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
Russell was driving the wrong way on Interstate 40 when he struck Severn's truck head on.
