BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - U.S. Sen. David Vitter says he met with Louisiana's attorney general in Baton Rouge to discuss the 2010 Census.
The Census Bureau plans to count all U.S. residents - without asking if they're U.S. citizens. Vitter said use of that data in redrawing congressional districts would mean Louisiana and several other states would lose a seat in the U.S. House.
Vitter wants the Census to count all U.S. residents, but only use citizens for use in making the new districts. He said that system would mean Louisiana would retain its current seven House seats.
Vitter, a Republican from Metairie, said he met with Buddy Caldwell on Friday to talk about possible legal action.
