FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Officials in Washington County say they want a full-time coroner and more room for the coroner to work.
Current Coroner Roger Morris works part-time for the county out of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home. County administrator Dan Short calls the situation "embarrassing."
County coroners are elected officials and an increase to full-time comes with an increase in salary. State law would allow Washington County to pay a full-time coroner up to $48,990.
Short says an office for the coroner could be built at the county sheriff's office.
