Clark captures Louisiana Supreme Court seat

WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - A state district judge from West Monroe has defeated Gov. Bobby Jindal's former executive counsel to capture a seat on the Louisiana Supreme Court.

With 100% of the results counted Saturday, Marcus Clark had 28,521 votes, or 52.8%, while Jimmy Faircloth of Alexandria had 25,945 votes, or 47.2%.

The court's District 4 seat represents 20 parishes in northeastern and central Louisiana. Clark replaces Chet Traylor, of Winnsboro, who retired.

Jindal endorsed Faircloth, who until July was the Republican governor's top lawyer. He resigned from the administration to run for the court. Clark is also a Republican.

The two never had a face-to-face debate, though a chapter of the Federalist Society offered to sponsor a forum, with pledges from several area television stations to broadcast it. The campaign was marked by negative advertisements from both sides.
