NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Three cities in Louisiana and one in Mississippi are among 41 regional Veterans Day sites named by Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.
The Veterans Day National Committee recognizes observances around the country each year as fitting tributes to America's heroes. The observances may receive military support when available.
The Louisiana sites named Thursday are New Orleans, Shreveport-Bossier City, and Slidell-Tammany Parish. Gulfport, Miss., joins other cities including Houston, Dallas, Austin and Bonham, Texas; Virginia Beach, Va.; Detroit, and Palm Springs, Calif.
The 2009 Veterans Day regional observances range from parades and ceremonies to military exhibits and tributes to distinguished local veterans.
