Street flooding in northwest Louisiana

Associated Press - October 12, 2009 9:34 PM ET

MINDEN, La. (AP) - Heavy rains flood northwest Louisiana roads and highways as a warm front moves north from the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast.

Many streets also flood in the New Orleans area, where the National Weather Service said up to 2 1/2 inches of rain was reported Monday evening.

Claiborne Parish closed schools at 12:30 p.m. Monday. Sheriff Ken Bailey said water on some roads was too deep for school buses.

Webster Parish closed Highway 159 from north of Minden to the Arkansas state line; officials said it would remain closed overnight.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Deen said there was high water around the parish, and floods caused sewage problems in at least two subdivisions.
