Stabbing suspect set for next detention hearing

Associated Press - October 5, 2009 4:15 AM ET

TYLER, Texas (AP) - The teenage suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Texas high school teacher is set for another detention hearing.

Smith County Juvenile Judge Floyd Getz is scheduled to preside Monday, 10 days after ruling in the first detention hearing that there was probable cause to hold the male student in the slaying. The boy hasn't been formally charged.

Special education teacher Todd Henry died Sept. 23 after he was stabbed in a classroom at John Tyler High School. The suspect was 1 of his students.

Jim Huggler, the suspect's attorney, says his client has a history of mental illness but hasn't elaborated. Smith County Criminal District Attorney Matt Bingham hasn't returned phone calls seeking comment.
