LAREDO, Texas (AP) - Six motorists trapped in flood waters were rescued and a daycare was evacuated after storms dumped several inches of rain on the Laredo area.
Police and public works officials waded through chest-deep water yesterday to carry about 90 preschool aged children from a daycare.
The children were not injured and the preschool was not flooded.
Laredo Fire Department spokesman Eloy Vega told The Associated Press that the thunderstorm prompted flooding at 12 intersections resulting in the motorists' rescues by Laredo fire crews. He had no reports of any casualties or damage.
The town of Encinal, about 40 miles north of Laredo, received seven inches of rain.
Parts of northwest Webb County had four inches of rain and rural areas also were affected.
The National Weather Service says a slow moving weak cold front contributed to the deluge.
