Part of I-30 closed after fatal semi accident

Posted: Updated:

MORRIS COUNTY, TX (KSLA) - An early morning accident in NE Texas killed the driver of one 18-wheeler and injured two people in a second tractor-trailer

The accident happened about 7 am Tuesday in the westbound lane of Interstate 30 in Morris County just west of the Bowie County line.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Transportation say one 18-wheeler had just pulled onto the interstate from a rest area when it was rear-ended by another 18-wheeler.

The driver of the second truck died at the scene. Two people in the cab of the first truck were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Right now, that stretch of I-30 is closed as troopers investigate the accident. They say it could be closed the rest of the day.

Traffic traveling west on I-30 from Texarkana is being rerouted onto Highway 561. From there drivers continue to Highway 256, which takes them back to I-30.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims nor what was being transported by the 18-wheelers.
