GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - The recovery Galveston and other southeast Texas cities have made in the year since being battered by Hurricane Ike was to be the focus of a Senate hearing on the island city.
A joint meeting of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Disaster Recovery Subcommittee was set to meet on Friday. The panel will hear testimony from Galveston business owners, city, state and federal officials about lessons learned and progress made since Ike hit on Sept. 13, 2008.
Before the hearing, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., who chairs both committees, along with Texas GOP Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison were going to tour the island.
