HOUMA, La. (AP) - Authorities in Houma say a 61-year-old pilot died when his single-engine plane crashed Thursday.
They identified him as Solomon James Falgout Jr. of Houma, a fish-spotter for Daybrook Fisheries.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the Cessna 182 Skylane carried only the pilot.
The plane took off just after 6 a.m. It was found about 12:45 p.m. by another Daybrook pilot.
Lunsford says authorities don't know whether Falgout crashed on takeoff or a landing approach. But he says the pilot never called air traffic control, and probably would have done so farther out if he intended to land.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois said it looked as if the plane went straight down without any attempt at an emergency landing.
