HOUSTON (AP) - Jailed Texas financier R. Allen Stanford might be getting a new attorney to lead his defense against charges he bilked investors out of $7 billion as part of a massive Ponzi scheme.
A court hearing is scheduled Tuesday on who will represent Stanford.
Stanford's current defense attorney, Dick DeGuerin, is trying to withdraw. He claims he hasn't been given assurances he'll be paid.
Stanford wants to be represented by Washington, D.C.-based attorney Robert Luskin. He's the lawyer for former White House political adviser Karl Rove.
Stanford's attorney hearing had been set for last month. It was postponed after he was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat and high pulse. Medical tests detected a non-life threatening aneurysm in his leg.
