HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says he hopes a compromise can be reached over a fight between federal and Hot Springs officials over the Arkansas city's use of a national park name in its logo.
Salazar told a community meeting on Thursday that the National Park Service has a vested interest in protecting the identity of Hot Springs National Park.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is reviewing whether the city's use of "Hot Springs National Park" in its logo is a trademark violation. The logo does not delineate between the national park itself and the city, and the federal agency said in a filing that the two should be kept distinct.
Salazar said the agency wants to protect the park's identity from misuse and at one point questioned whether city officials would allow a massage parlor to use the nation park name.
